When a Government servant officiates in a post the pay of which has been fixed at the rate personal to another Government servant, [the State Government] may permit him to draw pay at any rate not exceeding the rate so fixed or, if the rate so fixed be a time-scale, may grant him initial pay not exceeding the lower stage of that time-scale and future increments not exceeding those of the sanctioned scales.

[ Note :—Rule 33 prescribes the initial rate of pay of an officer officiating in a post the pay of which has been fixed at a rate personal to another Government servant. If the pay thus personally fixed is on a time-scale, it is not intended that an officiating incumbent should be debarred from drawing increments in the time-scale according to the ordinary rule].
